The Defence School of Air Engineering are hosting Taranto Night in HMS Sultan's Wardroom!
The Battle of Taranto took place overnight from 11-12 November 1940, and is recognised as the first all-aircraft ship-to-ship naval attack in history.
Interestingly, the operation was originally scheduled to take place on 21 October, Trafalgar Day, so it is fortunate that a delay due to a fuel fire allows us to celebrate two separate events rather than one!
The celebration of the Battle of Taranto, Taranto Night, is a fixture in the Naval social calendar, and is the primary mess dinner for the Fleet Air Arm.
